- Spectacular economic performance in Southeast Asia (particularly East Asia)
- An Overview of the Macroeconomic Environment/Situation Before and After the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis
- An Overview of Current Taiwan’s Economic Performance (particularly from 2008 to current)
- The impact(s) of the trade war between U.S. and China on Taiwan’s economy
Case Studies
- Current Taiwanese Business and Industrial Developments
- Visit several representative companies in Taiwan with Presentations & Discussions
- Visit to Port of Kaohsiung
Learning outcomes
After successfully completing this module, the students …
- understand common characteristics as well as regional distinctions within Asia
- are familiar with Asian history
- have discovered the different Asian cultures and societies
- understand the current economic situation of the Asian countries
- understand the way how the business runs in the Asian culture
- are able to define and to reach objectives with their counterparts within the Region of Destination
- understand the connections between culture, history and economy in specific Asian states and the unique features of cultural, historic and economic developments in those countries
- can apply general negotiation strategies and tactics
- can identify different negotiation situations (i.e. personally, by telephone, auctions…)
- have insights in psychology of a negotiation
- know how to read body language
- understand the importance of preparing a negotiation (i.e. documents, goal setting...)
- can apply strategies to allocate roles in case of several participants avoiding possible conflicts
- can identify strategy and tactics during the different phases of a negotiation (i.e. question technics, avoiding dead locks…)
- recognize different business in different industries/branches and know about unique features of specific business or industries in Asia
- are prepared to be engaged in different business areas in Asia (Manufacturing, Retailing & distributing have the competence to evaluate specific business in selected industries and submit reports on it.
